Organic Decaf

I'm not really supposed to drink coffee but with all the necessary late nights this year I sort of delved back into it after a 6 or 7 year hiatus.

In any case I do fairtrade organic decaf. The package says on it "swiss water method". It tastes surprisingly good. I happened across the way caffeine is extracted by water and thought it was kinda interesting so in true blogaholic fashion I add it here...

Coffee beans are soaked in water. The water, which contains not only caffeine but also many other compounds which contribute to the flavor of coffee, is then passed through activated charcoal, which removes the caffeine. The water can then be put back with the beans and evaporated dry, leaving decaffeinated coffee with a good flavor.[96] Coffee manufacturers recover the caffeine and resell it for use in soft drinks and over-the-counter caffeine tablets.
