The Hermit: A day in the life

You know when sometimes you just don't feel like being sociable and the last thing you want to see is another person or have to talk to them?? Today was especially one of those days.

I just let the phone ring and ring several times...off the hook. And I didn't feel guilty about it! (but now I do...cos I think my mates were a bit irritated. Mind you, they do it to ALL the time, I am just usually more thoughtful and considerate than I felt like being today...

On the upside, in my day of happy solitude, I managed to take a long overdue hot epsom salt soak in the bath...exactly what my muscles needed...inadvertently killed my muscles cos of this "power yoga" crap since my usual yoga teacher went on holidays...NOT FUN.

It was pretty funny though listening to the guy next to me straining so audibly- I have to admit I got worried when I saw his physical condition sweating so much that it dripped out his hair and he was totally strawberry red in the face-it did cross my mind to worry that he might just cark it right there and then and it did inspire me to try and recall some basic CPR...

I really commend the guy for bravery and effort but really, who cares about "face"- you really shouldn't overdo yourself- you can cause more harm than good! This incident really brought home why they make you get a doctor to supply you with a letter of fitness and also make you sign a waiver in case you cark it so they don't get sued later...

When I felt stretched way beyond my capacity I just crumpled on the ground and watched on while everyone else made effort: I have no shame...

And now back to the books- if I deserve one award for anything, it definitely should be for WORLD CLASS PROCRASTINATOR.

I'm glad that you feel comfortable collapsing in your Yoga class. I personally prefer to watch Yoga rather than actually do it. And I would never attend a class (I'm way to vain for that). But good for you! (and anyone else who isn't so vain/self-conscious)
;-)

All the time. I'm quite happy to have a day or two where I speak to absolutely no one. When living in a busy, noisy world, silence can be a wonderful thing.

Hey Macs
It is wonderful being a hermit every now and again. I feel very fortunate to be able to tune out and not have any responsibilities as far as people are concerned. Living on my own have lots of perks.

I have two new words to focus on for the rest of the year - Desire and Persistence.
Apparently Desire and Persistence complement one another. When lacking in Desire we should persist in our objective, and when lacking in persistence we should recall how badly we desire our purpose to be fulfilled.......It is working quite well for me at the moment having these two words running through my mind......anything that keeps me motivated is a blessing especially as winter is looming and I feel like hibernating!

awesome thoughts Pegs...I will add these two words to my "balance"...definitely very very relevant wisdom this slacker should take on board!!

I find it very interesting about words people still use. Such as,,, letting a phone ring off the hook...

Do phones in australia still have hooks? I miss hooks. At least the part of the phone one spoke into was very secure when put up.

Now, you have to change the thing every year or so for a new model and invariably the last thing the phone people think of putting in the package is a secure holder for the entire telephone and all that it may contain.

On the subject of 'masochism,' MsCL, you definitely sound like a thrill seeker. But maybe your mind functions better high on adrenaline at 3am? I did some of my best high school homework (hard stuff) the same way. 'course once I got to college (which was a lot easier, by the way. don't know what all the hype is about college being hard) I started doing my work on time (i.e. not early morning). 'course now that I think about it, that's not completely true.
You know what! You need to study something that you like.
hahah ;-)
Good luck.

I get that all the time, but of course you know that. :) I'm one of them who gets annoyed of my cell phone rings more then one time per day.

Do I need to work on that? We'll see. :)

Hiya Garry,

Yeah I miss the phones with the dials and the hooks. I tried to buy one but they don't exist in stores...I still use a corded phone...and will only get a new one once this one breaks.

I'm a bit of a luddite/technophobe. The cordless phones give off pretty strong EMFs and interfere with my other electrical equipment.

HappyOrganist...did you ever think...maybe you are a NERD...naturally?!!! ;)

weird you found High school hard and university easy? In my experience school is all rote learning and minimal work- uni this course anyway is loads of work and stretches my mind especially in a course of study that can be as abstract and multidisciplinary as this one!

I do like....LOVE the study content, I just HATE STUDYING and being tied to a desk!!! period.

I am such a hermit. I havent answered my land line in years. I let the machine get it. If people call my cell I can screen them with caller ID. I am such a recluse but I love it.
Oh and you should see my red face when I am jogging. Ain't pretty!

MsCL, No, actually I have never thought that. ;-P
College was easier on account of A) the school I attended, and B) the major I chose. Almost tried Math Ed (I took calculus for fun!. Who does that). No, I'm not a nerd.
heheh
But I didn't ultimately go the math route (a little TOO much 'higher' math required. Gosh I don't know why a person needs to know all that weird stuff just to teach algebra). Stuck with French instead (and no teaching credentials). Was too excited to just get the degree and be done with it (had to start my huge family of 10 kids) [ahem - not happening BTW!] French was much better. classes were great. slacking didn't make a huge difference. And I've been able to pick up Spanish since then, which has served me quite well (i.e. the French wasn't entirely useless). Although, overall, a Bachelor's degree in just French (at least in this country) is kinda useless.
But hey! I got a piece of paper!
Yes - your chosen field of study looks quite multidisciplinary.. all that balancing to do. yikes

Shan, I'm sure you look beautiful with a bright red face...haha it's called "unconditional love" ;) BTW if we ever live in the same country you better recognise my number on your caller id and you'll have to go through my voicemail- I never turn my cell on and pick up my landline only when I feel like it ;)

Happyorganist- who the hell considers qualifying in MATH ed of their own accord? LOL my dad was fantasising about making me into a financial mathematician straight out of school...but I said no way, "I am too cool for school" ;) LOL neh it's cool that you're brainy.

Your French degree may be relatively useless but my Spanish major in this country was even more ridiculous! LOL I was just playing first degree round ;) can't remember a thing either.

If you weren't busy popping out babies I would have looked into something like working for the united nations. Or at least with such great language skills, a diplomat so you can travel the world...

p.s you can have your 10 kids if you really have the desire...just keep up with the acu and herb treatments!

are you kidding? I can't handle 3.!
The whole 3rd pregnancy was a sign from God that I'm at my limit.
Seriously, when a person breaks their own water to get the d**m pregnancy over with, don't you think that person should AVOID getting pregnant again? (TMI? well, we're all medical professionals here, right?..)
As for United Nations, my skills are not that superb. It takes a LOT of training (years and years).. and years.. years.
Ok - I don't have years.
(that Spanish comment on your other recent post was AWESOME. I thought that was so cool) Do you know that person?

yeah you really wonder how in the old days women had 10 babies- how the hell their bodies could handle all that wear and tear is truly a testament to divine creation...women that is, LOL

hehe...hands off! he's my supercool mexican pseudo russian with a head full of literary masterpieces sage friend! he came via my blog...there are some pretty cool people who just "drop in" ;)

YES! I treasure my alone time at night when I can craft and not utter a word. Boo is quite the chatterbox so she exhausts me by the end of the day.
