How short is too short?

If you have been in any women's clothing store in the last two years here, you would have noticed the "look" here has been getting progressively more and more skanky e.g tops are down to HERE, skirts and shorts are UP TO HERE, Heels are Sky High, Tops are all see through and/or sexified cuts. If you even want to dress even half way conservative and not dowdy, well, it can be a bit of a challenge...and frankly, YOU are the weirdo, not the norm!

So anyway, I spied this...arty dress...ooh it was so pretty and SO IMPRACTICAL it had about 1000 sequins on it and Tassels!...like I said, ARTY!!! In any case when I tried it on...it actually looked good, it actually FIT and was...attractively arty! Only problem was...boy was it ever...SHORT! It only just covered my ass...and definitely not when I sit!

But in my artistic appreciation, I rationalised I could wear shorts or jeans under it...when I'm outside, and that in all reality, it would probably end up hanging in my wardrobe most of the year like my Infamous green coat which cost a bomb and which I admire hanging there most of the year cos it is too "nice" to wear out into the dirty smelly streets...

So basically, my question is...how short is too short?!!! Should I keep it or return the just covers ass dress...in any case haha when I put it on I was like ha impressive! this "past her prime girl" can so pull off a just covers ass dress! LOL, do I sound like a woman on the verge of their almost 30 midlife crisis? yikes

;D hahhahah
you Bought it?! that's hilarious.
Good for you ( I guess).
I would return it and come shop in Utah. We have lots of modest clothing (and I think plenty of it is cute). Not quite the cute you describe, but then I only shop at Walmart ;)

We do have skanky clothes, btw. But we also have the highly-appreciated-by-me knee-length shorts (vs the short short stuff you find everywhere else in the world b/c we all know that women want to show THAT much of their skin to the world).

Keep the dress you obviously love it. Short dress does not always equal skanky. Skanky is a package of hair style, make up style and general movement style. I suspect you will not make a skanky package.

wear it. Trust me and wear it now while you still can
I have been having my almost 30 midlife crisis too, when I realized I am too old to be cool and too young to be uncool. Ugg...Wear the dress with shorts.

I know H.O....soooo IMPRACTICAL...maybe I am a late bloomer and at 29, I am finally turning into a...GIRL(!)

I think cos we have a beach culture here it would be fine to wear over swimmers at the beach and can do it over jeans and shorts...(I don't even own shorts that short-lol so will have to get some)...it is kinda like a tennis dress short but not as tight...not SO bad.

I think I am in an artsy fartsy mode and just have a NEED for some more interesting/arty clothing -sure you can't bung it in the machine but HEY...life is too boring without some interesting art wear.

LOL, you know what is funny- my mum made me some dresses(cos I am that small few things fit) and I wanted them knee or past and my MUM was the one who insists that above knee is appropriate for younger girls! LOL as you can imagine, she was a bit of a fashionista girly girl in her time...I took after my dad...

Franko Gnedo, thanks for the male input-haha yeah I never consciously thought skanky is more than just clothing- you're right! and you're also right I am not a skanky personality...by any means I couldn't even impersonate it if you paid me a zillion dollars...everybody would be dissolved all over the floor doubled up laughing if I even tried (including me!)

Shan remember when the 19 year old soccer players hit on you? LOL...you got at least another 10 years to wear short skirts I think...lol, too bad about the weather though!

p.s HO, if I did try and wear Walmart, being as small as I am...that would just be...TOO CUTE! I'd be like an oompa loompa drowning in Harlem Globetrotter sized uniforms! that leads me to the realisation that my dress would double as a very beautiful decent lengthed skirt...too bad you can't sit on a 1000 sequins and the tassels won't tie for a skirt!

I have a dress and I wonder if it'd fit you (being shorter than I am, but not necessarily fatter, right?). I bet it would fit. BUT, I bet it's not your style (even though it's oriental). It's this gorgeous dress.
The trouble is, it was just too short for me to quite get away with (and be comfortable) wearing. We've been looking for matching leggings, but never found any that worked.
So there it is, just packed away in the garage for my daughter to wear 10 years from now. Maybe 7 years from now..

;/
It's awfully cute, though. just wow.. C totally loves it. Maybe I'll dig it out and take a picture some time.

the irony is despite looking asian I'm so not, so I love cheong sams too- haha so "exotic"!I like Indian clothes too but more subtle versions...

if it is silk you better have it packed with moth balls or else you will find holes when you next look at it!!!
