MONKEY BOY: Favourite New Addition to Vocabulary ;)

I remember working in corporate. It seemed that anyone in any position of significance was a male and that they typically had any number of well groomed (but not particularly bright) women around to do their bidding. Heck I don't exactly fit those criteria but even I remember running around town with all manner of obscure requests being a sidekick to an M.D...

Perhaps that is why when I came to know of the term "Monkey Boy"(is this an American only expression?) recently, I instantly fell in love with it! I guess in a typical show of subversion...after my corporate stint I vowed it would be a reverse sexism...Me running a business and having a good looking but competent and intelligent male around to do My bidding! *lol exactly what every busy modern career woman needs ;)

*meh* I only talk...I have way too many libran influences to not be a fair and just employer.

In any case, I really really loved the gaining of an hour due to Daylight Saving...is this a global event today? I have no idea when this happens- they should announce it more or something, if it wasn't for my dear mum ringing me up or in these techy days my laptop and mobile updating themselves I would have absolutely no idea when to turn clocks forward and back! If I was running the whole day/night light show I would so give the world an extra hour every single week- it's exactly what we tired world weary busy bees need just to recharge each week!

And just a question of curiosity...cos being my first free-ish weekend in month and ending up spending at least 12 hours on chores alone this weekend how much time do you spend on domestic household duties each week? I find myself spending an absurd amount of time tied up with chores(at least 12-20 hours a week) and I'm not exactly running anything near a Stepford wife show! Honestly just cooking cleaning laundry groceries...it's like one job in itself! I have nothing but respect for housewives with babies and no help...that is one FULL FULL time job!

Brushes with Fame...

*phew! What an interesting psychological insight the last few days has been.

Having been acquainted with a "VIP" has been one seriously interesting experience...really quite astounding in many respects...now I understand what they mean when someone has "X factor"...this guy had it all: good looks, brains, great disposition, reputation...

although I was somewhat aware of this, I only stayed "wowed" for about 2 seconds: at the end of the day- maybe cos I'm an old soul- I don't stay "wowed" for long....at the end of the day we are all people- some are endowed with more gifts than others but generally we all balance out- we are good at some things and bad at some things, some of us have luck in the looks department, some with a kind heart and humanitarian nature, some in the brains department....in any case maybe I am quick to see past exterior surfaces to the immaterial...the only thing that can really wow me is when I come across really white souls in human beings....as they are so rare they immediately jump out at me on a psychic level and I confuse them with having seen "angels".

In any case, despite knowing I was in the midst of some kind of Genius Casanova, it still didn't fail to really surprise me when I witnessed the tangible effect this guy had on the average female...amazing...if only I could bottle that for sale I'd be a freaking zillionaire!!!

And on a personal level it was also thoroughly disappointing as well because usually very reliable women in my life were suddenly reduced to a pile of flirtatious, gushing (and even jealous)mush...I think today I never felt more invisible...In any case, that hurt....for some strange reason it is very hard for a male to hurt me, but with girlfriends, I am incredibly sensitive to rejection. I guess that is typical for me...my life has always been so back to front...my mindset and behaviour is absolutely nothing like two X chromosomes, which is probably why guys have always made for the more natural, easy friends with little conscientious effort on my part, and if anything, females are the foreign un-understandable species that strike fear in my heart!

So much for girl friends. If there's anything I've learnt is that they're not the most reliable species once someone with a Y chromosome gets in the picture. Of course that could be gender stereotyping but it just doesn't happen that much with guys in my case for whatever reason...maybe guys still feel a need to be nice and polite to me cos I'm a girl?

Whatever, I'll take whatever decency I can get. I'm still holding out for my standard of friend, while still being able to retain my carefree and responsible singledom. Although I have to admit, the kind of high maintenance 100% loyalty friendship I am used to and so am always on a quest for (which typically is a standard that the majority of people only give to partners), my relationship abstinence undertaking while I study can sometimes feel like a bit of a challenge....Good friends that aren't partners who reciprocate equally large efforts are so, so rare.

Perhaps it is a bleak outlook like my old soul friend said..."you are born alone, you die alone. Don't expect too much from anybody. The only person you can rely on is yourself". By the same token, I have also learned valuable lessons in establishing barriers and not giving so much of myself.

Life is one big school of hard knocks. But an irrepressibly beautiful journey full of delicious twists and surprises where miracles and wishes can come true too :)

Pervs.

I wasn't going to mention it but the topic kind of cropped up...

my girlfriend rocked up today in a super-short skirt and some pretty high high heels...

me: that's a really short skirt!
her: yeah.
me: oh well at least you've got leggings, would you dare wear it without leggings?
her: oh yeah!

haha...I remember last year (the season of the micro mini) trying on the longest available skirt in the shop, examining it riding up my ass and thinking shit it's short! and at 26, that I was totally way too old to be wearing it!

So anyway now that I've gotten used to just how short skirts get, I no longer think their wear should be confined to younger age groups...but...I still wouldn't wear one in public! It's not actually that I'm being old fogey conservative or prudish...cos really, I have no qualms wearing minimal clothes in the privacy of my own home (provided there is a point: when the piece of material doesn't even cover your ass when you sit I'm not quite sure the point...you may as well walk around naked, which again, in the privacy of my own home, no issue, as long as it's Comfortable! ;)

The reason why I would never be seen in public in THAT short a skirt is plain and simple...Pervs! Basically, I think when you dress like that realistically, you're just asking for Trouble...

For me this whole modesty issue is also grounded in desiring a certain level of respect. And basically I don't think that's possible if all men notice is some ass walking around on legs...I'm not BLAMING them as such- I know it's all about their biological makeup blah blah they're visual, governed by their nether regions and have a weakness for low cut tops, long hair, short skirts and high heels etc etc...

It just gets kind of tiring (and perhaps I speak for at least some of my gender here)...this total objectification of women...if you just get whistled at instead of spoken to doesn't that sometimes make you feel just like a dog?!

...At least in regional areas you're a bit more tolerant cos the population is small, and single men rarely see any single women...but here, the population is a lot bigger so you get "perved on" or at least stared at a lot more frequently....even from my personal experience with my male friends- you can't even have a concentrated conversation with them cos their eyes are constantly flicking back and forth checking out every single female that passes within their line of vision!! The saddest part also is alot of men are actually "attached" but they just can't help themselves! :P

Sometimes when this kind of behaviour is more overt, it leads me to believe that a lot of people in relationships aren't actually happy in their relationship- rather it is a "safety holding pen" until they find someone better...(and that's 90% honesty speaking as opposed to jadedness.)

I know if you can be more attractive it has it's advantages- you sure get treated better when you dress better etc but I don't appreciate brainless superficiality in any form so being a subversive creature of nature...I deliberately dress down to avoid being a voluntary conspirator... A good experiment actually to illustrate just how superficial people are by nature is to go deal with the same people a) looking your worst b) looking your best...results are astounding!!!!

In the end though it's about personal choice- if dressing better gives you the self confidence you otherwise lack and you enjoy the attention or being stared at and are willing to put up with all this kind of crap than Happy Days to You!

I can only imagine how annoying it must be for women who look like Barbie Dolls...how hard must it be for them to get any respect let alone ever be taken seriously or have anyone believe that they might actually possess a brain?!

In the end dressing down deliberately or never dressing up makes sense because you don't want to attract anybody that is so superficial and shallow they only like you for being presentable on the external at that particular moment not for who you really are, and would likely want to dump you as soon as they see your normal reality at 6am in the morning sans makeup, blow dried hair and freshly brushed teeth ;)

Finally, this post brings to mind this woman in New Zealand lol.

Convoluted Paths, Film and Music...

I learnt in my notetaking class about the curious art form of Path Tracing. It's pretty cool really: to gauge human interaction with a public space, people's movements in that space are documented and recorded visually- this has become some kind of ubercool underground art form...

Since I had a luxurious day off yesterday today brought scope for "playtime"- and it was only the second time I've found myself having to come back reasonably late night unescorted in the city and we all know what happened the first time :P
So anyway I deliberately went back the long-winded way to avoid the beer goggled and dangerous yobbo stretch...no such luck :P just 200 m shy of home there was some crazy blocking the bridge who was curled up screaming violent nonsense like he required an exorcism...so I had to turn back to where I came and walk yet another convoluted path home...
I was half thinking- "wow what pretty arty squiggles my path home would have made"LOL. Of course my rational practical side was thinking "sheesh, SO INEFFICIENT- this convoluted path walking is really starting to get on my nerves!"
So anyway, I caught a film The Visitor - I have to admit I didn't read the entire blurb when choosing - I got suckered in by the headline "in a world of 6 billion people it only takes one to change your life" as well as the fact it was set in NYC...
Unfortunately, unlike Juno I have no glowing review for The Visitor...I found the movie was overly sentimental, overly constructed/stylized? and highly oppressive/quite heavy- I guess that is the mood the director was trying to achieve though...if you have seen this film and have an opinion, I'd like to know!

In any case, I did take one inspiration from the film...

I think I want to take up African Drumming(Djembe)!!!

pic: wikipedia

Playing drums has always been a childhood wish (along with trombone, sax and double bass- LOl what's the deal with small person and big instruments?!)

I like rhythm so much, I remember as a child playing pots and pans and even stringing up an icecream bucket to be 'the little drummerboy'...this love for rhythm and noise even extended to me 'tapdancing' on the kitchen tiles.

Anyhow no drumkit or drum lessons ever eventuated because of my mum's preconceived ideas about what constitutes a gender appropriate instrument...or maybe she was just being sensible it what she would be able to stand the sound of!!

In any case, since I'm on the topic of music, just yesterday I was listening to Nigel Kennedy's Four Seasons and thinking what an utterly sublime piece of classical music it is, and that if I could play the violin I'd want to be able to play just like him!

Similarly, if I could play Cello, I'd want to be able to play like Yo Yo Ma. And piano, I have no favourite artist as long as I had the ability to play great composers like Ravel, Bach, Beethoven, Brahms, Mozart, Debussy etc...

The great thing about African Drumming is unlike the others which you need to learn as a child just to be able to make nice noises, I think hand drums are relatively easy to learn as long as you have a decent sense of rhythm! I wonder how much they cost??...I think this will have to wait till after the DSLR...and I definitely need to take a vow of abstinence with the CDs! :-p

Men Talk, Women Listen...

is that how the saying goes? Well then I'm sick of it!

Maybe I "talk" or to use M's expression-verbal diarrhoea- to my blog alot cos in my real life I don't get to literally talk enough?! I guess also when you're surrounded by extroverts and loud types you don't end up saying much unless invited. Or maybe it's characteristic of introverts: with people who are practically strangers you keep to yourself and listen politely rather than talk.

Today bumped into D which was pretty funny- he was asking me how my exam went? I politely responded. Then a brief silence...but he couldn't contain himself and burst into: "aren't you gonna ask how IIIIIIIIIIIII went?"

haha and this was the clincher:"No! Cos I already asked you this morning and you already told me all about it!"

LOL- this just illustrates how I'm starting to really notice how most men love nothing more than to talk about themselves and half their purpose in talking with women is to try and get their egos stroked - actually I told him this arguably skewed perspective and he immediately agreed wholeheartedly! LOL

Actually this study debunks long held stereotypes and results are pretty interesting!
